Welcome to Susan Markisz Photography
Susan is an accomplished, passionate and mission-driven photojournalist and writer in New York. In addition to being a professional photographer, she is a photo editor and communication specialist, with 25 years of global experience in advocacy, humanitarian photography and writing in the United Nations system, with NGOs, international media and the private sector.
She is a compassionate, sensitive, dynamic and bilingual (Spanish & English) storyteller, writer and photographer, dedicated to ethically representing the rights of children and women through photography and writing, and is equally confident and experienced in photographing high level officials, world leaders and celebrities in public and private meetings with a dedication to “finding and telling the back story” when the lead isn’t obvious or compelling.
She is a detail-oriented photo editor working with digital asset management systems; researching, writing and incorporating comprehensive caption information and metadata for cataloguing imagery.
Susan has worked extensively on photography missions in Latin America and the Caribbean, documenting birth registration, immunization, early childhood education, indigenous rights and child protection issues. Her goal in photojournalism is to bring sensitivity and compassion to her imagery.
